Barbara Murphy has 5 grandchildren who have always called her "Mimi." What could be better than incorporating that lovely nickname into her business persona? She was a wife, mother and homemaker for 23 years, raising 5 children and never quite having the time to explore her creative side.
Barbara always loved to sing. She has written songs and played the bass in a popular local band for 10 years. During that time, she designed the home she has lived in for the past 30 years (and did much of the work to build it). During her 20 years of marriage, her family traveled extensively, visiting 6 of the 7 continents. In the late 1980's, she started an Asian Import business called The Silk Road after traveling throughout China.
Her life took an abrupt turn in 2003 when she found out she had stage 3 Lymphoma. Because she felt she had the greatest doctor in the world, there was never a doubt in her mind she would fully recover. She has been cancer free for the last 3 years.
While recouperating and waiting for her hair to grow back, she sat at her dining room table and began making jewelry. This is where she finally found her true passion. It was so much fun and the ideas came fast! She could sit all day, making necklaces, with no 2 being alike.
Barbara has always loved beauty and quality. She only uses quality stones, pearls and beads in her jewelry. Sometimes she might even find something very unusual at an estate sale and take it apart, just for one little piece. The result is always a one of a kind, work of art.
If the gold is not gold plated (gold vermeil), she will let you know if it is gold filled or goldtone. Her silver is all Sterling, including the handmade Bali Silver. She has also used several very beautiful clasps that are hypo-allergenic.
